The Alfa 159i Gold, known elsewhere as the Alfetta Gold Cloverleaf, is the most sophisticated and luxurious version of the original Alfetta, in its 10-year development run. The name Alfetta is a historic one - coined for Alfa Romeo's small single-seater racing cars which were the first of the marque to have rear-mounted transaxles. The 159 was the last of the racing Alfettas, and the car in which Fangio won the 1951 World Driver's Championship.
1985 was Alfa Romeo's 75 birthday and several of the 159i Gold models were badged as limited-run 75th Anniversary editions. Production at Brits closed the same year for financial reasons as well as the sanctions imposed on South Africa at the time.
1985 Alfa Romeo Alfetta 159i Gold - 75th Anniversary edition. Vehicle in excellent condition throughout. It features air-conditioning (requires re-gas), electric windows, electric seats, electric aerial and electric mirrors. Recent repairs include new tyres, shock absorbers, front suspension bushings and centre exhaust section. Engine bay was resprayed and electrics restored to original Alfa specifications. Air-conditioning system had all O-rings and dryer replaced to accept the R134 gas. All that is required is a retrofit valves and re-gas. With the exception of some small rust spots on the boot lid, the car is rust-free. This is an accident-free classic vehicle - not many left on the road in this condition - and is a collector's item with values increasing.
