James Bond, known for his keen sense of fashion, the latest gadgetry and of course cars. On the car front it was traditionally something from a highly exclusive motor maker – think Aston Martins, a rare open-top Toyota 2000GT and Lotus. But for GoldenEye (1995), he moved down into the middle market with a BMW Z3 Roadster.
While this could have been seen as a downgrade, a quick glance at what the roadster offered made sense. It was well¬-equipped, with air conditioning, ABS, dual airbags, central locking, power-adjustable driver's seat, anti-theft system, and stereo in the standard package.
It wasn’t the fastest car on the market, but the silky straight-6 combined with the relatively low weight to make it an eager and fun package. The zero to 100km/h was done in just over 7 seconds, short-travel controls gave 007 a great feeling and the suspension provided a stable, yet engaging platform.
30 years later the Z3 is enjoying a resurgence in popularity for all the same reasons. It offers a great value, top down, exiting drive and to some trumps the similarly aged and priced Mazda Mx-5 and Mercedes-Benz SLK offerings.
This particular example is in super condition, having been well-looked after both mechanically and cosmetically.
