Description by seller:
This is a one-owner car from the estate of the late Ambassador Paul Coetzee. A LHD European-spec car, it was privately imported when new by special diplomatic concession to Ottawa, Canada, for temporary use while the owner was attached to the South African Embassy there, as it was not approved for use in North America at the time.
It completed a 4 500km journey to Florida and back in 1976, and a 9 000km journey to California and back in 1977, before being shipped to Pretoria in 1978. A number of trips to Cape Town were made over the ensuing years. The car was placed in storage from 1984 to 1989 while Mr Coetzee was stationed to Washington DC and then Houston, Texas, and again from 1993 to 1996 while Mr Coetzee served as South African Ambassador to Greece.
Mr Coetzee retired to Cape Town in 1997, whereafter the car was used sparingly. The car was always garaged, always shipped in closed containers and meticulously maintained over its 47-year life.
The now-rare 14” BBS alloy wheels were fitted in the mid-‘70s. The original steel wheels and hubcaps are also available.
Damage disclosure: the car suffered a minor front-end collision in c.2019, necessitating straightening of the radiator bulkhead and replacement of the central section of the three-piece front bumper and the bumper reinforcement bar. Slight damage to the bottom edge of the grille remains.
Papers are in order (status reflects 'Used/gebruik') and licence is up to date.
Available to view by appointment in Cape Town.
